Thread: Hello

    Default Hello

I'm new to the forum, but not so much to dialysis or NxStage. I started back on dialysis on 7/17/06 following a 9 year transplant. I started on NxStage in October of 2006 and I LOVE IT I participated in the nocturnal study last year and have never felt better. Now I'm looking forward to my 20th wedding anniversary and we're going on a cruise

Looking forward to chatting with everyone

Welcome to the forum and would like to invite you to join the list serve if you haven't already. Since you participated in the nocturnal study could you tell me if you had low phos. since NxStage doesn't currently have a port to add Fleets, and if so, what did you do to correct it? Any problems with your calcium or PTH going too high that you had to adjust for? Did you learn anything new from the nocturnal study? Congrats on feeling so well!

How do I join the listserve?

Now that the study is over, I can choose short daily or nocturnal depending on my schedule. When I do nocturnal, the lowest my phosphorus has been was 3.6. But I have to admit, I'm a diet coke drinker However, I was told that if my phosphorus is low and my diet can't bring it up, there's a powdered nutriphos you can add to drinks to boost it back up. Me personally, I'd prefer a grilled cheese sandwich My PTH was much better on nocturnal. I learned that I can fall asleep and get a good nights rest even hooked up with the noise of the machine. And I'm a much nicer person because I'm not rushing around trying to get so much done during the day. I can dialyze at night, but can't do laundry or clean the house. Best use of my time with 4 kids

One more thing, after several weeks on the nocturnal study, they doubled my dialysate amount. If I do short nightly, I do 30 litres, but overnight I'll do up to 60. That also made a huge difference.....

I am not sure but think the listserve sign up can be found on the left hand side of the page when you go to NxStageUsers.com. If this is incorrect, please let me know and I will find out.

TY for the info on the study and good to hear how well you do with nocturnal. With 60L of dialysate for nocturnal what is your filtration fraction number and blood flow rate? Also, how long are your txs?

Also, what improvements do you experience when you run at 60L as opposed to 30L?
